Julie Niles, registered dental hygienist and Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist

“I love the scientific validity behind Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. There has been more research in the area of myofunctional therapy and how it helps develop structures of head and neck, corrects deviant swallow patterns, addresses tethered oral tissues such as tongue and lip ties, reduces neck and shoulder strain, reduces symptoms of mild to moderate sleep apnea, helps people sleep better, create nasal breathing, increases oxygen uptake and better oral function. The information behind this practice is fascinating to this science geek and seeing the amazing results and better health makes it so worth it!”

Julie Niles
About me

Julie is a registered dental hygienist and Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist. She was first introduced to Myofucntional therapy in college while attending the American Dental Hygiene Association conference in Washington D.C. However, at that time, Julie pursued an associate of Science degree in Dental Hygiene and began her 37-year career in dentistry. She has since earned a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and was inducted into the Sigma Phi Alpha Dental Hygiene Honor Society.

Julie believes Orofacial Myo-functional Therapy (OMT) helped develop her overall knowledge of the function of the muscles and structures in the head and neck. She has taken courses from both the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM) and from the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (AOMT) and received Certification in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy from AOMT. Following, she also began studying Butyko Breathing from Patrick McKeown (very well-known breathing educator from Ireland) and is in the process of becoming a certified Buteyko breathing educator. Julie has been providing OMT services for two years.

With a strong passion for continuing her education in all aspects of dental care, leadership and evidence-based treatment, Julie has taken extensive continuing education courses in Orthodontics, Occlusion, Periodontics and Orofacial Myofunctional therapy. She has served as President of the Nebraska Dental Hygienists Association and currently serves as Secretary of the Nebraska Rural Healthcare Association Board.
